Bio

Bernice Shaw (she/her/"B") adventures as a “Free Radical,” dedicated to supporting whole movements with whole people. Through her consultancy, she partners with organizations and teams, bringing creativity, play, and thoughtful planning to collaborative efforts for justice and transformation. Before launching this practice, Bernice was Co-Director at the Center for Story-based Strategy (CSS), where she spent over a decade harnessing the power of radical imagination, working with organizers and activists to reshape narratives at the intersection of pollution, poverty, and racism. Earlier in her journey, Bernice was a student organizer at UCLA, worked on food trucks, music festivals, and other creative ventures, all while seeking to align her politics with her passions. She credits deep mentorship and capacity-building for shaping her political evolution and commitment to liberation. Based in Oakland on Ohlone Land, Bernice is always up for a conversation about Jazz or organizing—especially over a cup of boba milk tea.
